Satipanya center - Shrewsbury, UK

Alongside my yoga studies, I have been practicing Vipassana meditation regularly since 2012 under the guidance of Bhante Bodidamma at Satipanya in Shrewsbury, UK.

Satipanaya Centre

Mahasi Sayadaw came to the UK in the 1970s. Although there are urban centres in the UK where this tradition is taught, there is no retreat centre as such dedicated to this practice.

Bhante Bodhidhamma has been practising the Mahasi tradition since 1979 and teaching it since 1985. Such has been the interest in the practice by lay people, particularly in the UK and Ireland, that support has been given to the establishment of Satipanya.

Satipanya is a small, intimate retreat that allows for the kind of individual guidance that Mahasi Sayadaw encouraged.

Their main purpose is therefore to teach the Mahasi tradition of Vipassana meditation.

They organise retreats dedicated to the development of the contemplative life and vipassana meditation in the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw from Burma.

Satipanya is located in the UK, in Powys, Wales, south of Shrewsbury and close to the Shropshire border.

The Satipanya Buddhist Trust is rooted in the Theravada Buddhist tradition as practiced in South East Asia. (source: Satipanya)

"Satipanya" is a combination of two words: sati means awareness, full consciousness and panya intuitive intelligence. These are the faculties of the enlightened mind. Bhante Bodhidhamma
