Yoga Mysore - traditional teaching of Ashtanga

It is a unique and powerful way to develop a yoga practice where individual growth is valued and honored.

Ashtanga has the ability and power to teach you how committed you are to your body and your well-being.

What is Mysore Yoga?

Mysore Style Self-Practice is the traditional, lineage-based method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as developed by the guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, South India. This method is taught in the traditional way with an emphasis on strength, flexibility, alignment and fun. The student learns slowly, at his own pace. The postures are taught sequentially, based on the Ashtanga sequences, adding postures over time.

What are the benefits of this practice?

The student is left with a practice that can be done independently of a teacher or class and is not unlike a moving meditation. This process produces internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies the muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, vitality, a light and supple body, strength and a calm and peaceful mind. It is a unique and powerful way to develop a yoga practice where individual growth is valued and honoured, and where all students, from beginners to advanced practitioners, learn side by side.

What is a yoga Mysore class like?

In the "Mysore class", students work at their own pace, practicing any series or section of a series that is appropriate to their individual needs and abilities. The class is generally silent, except for a few words of instruction, with only the combined sound of breathing in the room as a backdrop.

It takes a skilled and experienced teacher, able to give individual attention as each practitioner needs it and with minimal interruption to the continuity of their inner flow of experience.

Each class in this module lasts 2 hours and the maximum capacity of participants per class is 6 people, in order to guarantee the quality of the teaching.
