Kaivalyadhama Institute

Kaivalyadhama is located in the serene and spectacular Sahayadri ranges of Lonavala, Western India. Amidst a lush green landscape and unspoilt flora, Kaivalyadhama enjoys a soothing climate and pleasant weather all year round. The serene neighbourhood attracts a variety of birds, wildlife and butterflies for nature lovers.

Founded by Swami Kuvalayananda in 1924, Kaivalyadhama follows the pure principles of the traditional Ashtanga Yoga of Patanjali, the revered eighth century yogic seer. Kaivalyadhama was founded with the specific aim of merging the yoga tradition with science, in order to make this knowledge relevant and accessible to the world.

Yoga is now globally recognised as a systematic meditative, therapeutic and healing practice. The need for strengthening immunity, regular recovery and a healthy, balanced lifestyle continues to grow. At Kaivalyadhama, we combine yoga and advanced science to create and innovate synergies in health, education and yoga research.

Kaivalyadhama promotes and facilitates the effective practice of traditional yoga for physical, emotional and spiritual well-being and healing. We believe that traditional yoga has the answers for a holistic and fulfilling life.Kaivalyadhama's warm and relaxing environment and environmentally friendly campus provide the perfect ambience to explore the many benefits of yoga through asana (postures), pranayama (regulated breathing) and many other yoga techniques.

Kaivalyadhama, one of the oldest and most innovative yoga institutes in the world, currently has 16 centres worldwide: six in India and ten in countries in Europe, America and Asia. We continue to be guided by the invaluable wisdom of Swami Maheshananda, Kaivalyadhama's president and spiritual guide.

Kaivalyadhama publishes the oldest and most admired quarterly scientific journal on yoga, known as Yoga Mimamsa, now recognised by the University Grants Commission - Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics (UGC-CARE-I), for its quality standards. (source: Kaivalayadhama)
